Life Update

Hello everyone! It’s been a hot minute since I have written a blog post.

I haven’t had the chance to write anything since I got wisdom teeth taken out and nursing school kicking my ass. Recovering from getting my wisdom teeth removed was worse than I imagined. I was in pain for almost a week and a half, eating soft foods was annoying because all I wanted was pizza and chicken nuggets, and still having to finish assignments for my classes didn’t help either.

I honestly can’t remember all the things I have done in the past few weeks, but I know it was an overload of stuff. I’ve had another assessment and mental health exam. I got a 79 on assessment and an 86 on mental health (again ugh), so they went pretty well! I had an exam in my civ class and that was a hot mess, but with all the extra credit I did I got a 110 on it *dabs* so that class is going to be pretty easy. I also turned in my Standards of Professional Practice paper for my fundamentals class, so hopefully I get the grade for that this weekend🤞🏽 I also had my white coat ceremony on Feb. 23rd and it was awesome!! It felt like we actually made it into the program and now we have the next six semesters to look forward to until graduation. I’m getting in my feels just thinking about that because I know that I will persevere and be successful in this career along with the pre-med courses that I’m going to be taking.

Next week, I am traveling to Kansas City, MO for a conference that I’m presenting at and I’m high-key nervous about it. I’m going to be on a panel with my professor that I did the proposal/research with and I’ll be talking about my life as an undocumented student. I know that I shouldn’t be nervous because lots of people support me and other undocumented folk, but I still get anxiety when talking about my own personal experiences. It’s going to be a fun trip, so I will most likely post about that next weekend when I get back to Murray! When I get back, it will also be my spring break so I’ll finally be able to relax…sike!!! I have to work at the restaurant and study for exams that I have when we come back from break🙃 so ya girl is not going to have a fun and relaxing spring break sadly.

Also, swim season started a couple of weeks ago and it’s going great!! We have a lot more athletes than last year, but I’m so happy they are wanting to try out a new sport and learn to love it as much as I do. We still have some more practices to get through before our first meet, but I will definitely be updating you guys with how great everyone is doing.

One last thing that has happened is the deadline Tr*mp gave Congress, March 5th, to fix DACA has passed and nothing has changed. The Democrats and Republicans aren’t doing anything to help undocumented youth and they’re using us as political pawns. Undocumented youth have continued to fight in DC by doing protests and lobbying at the offices of our elected officials, but they continue to not pass anything. They would be able to pass the Dream Act, but they’re lazy and don’t care about us. I’m glad that many judges have said that Tr*mp ending DACA is unconstitutional and are demanding that DACA recipients should still be able to renew their work permits, but this is just a temporary fix. Hopefully something good happens soon, but I’m losing my hope in the people that have said they were going to help us.

I think that covers everything that has happened to me in the last few weeks. I promise I haven’t forgotten about my scrubs review!! My brother took pictures of me this past weekend and we still need to take pictures of some of my scrubs, so that will be up soon!

I hope everyone has a great Thursday and a great weekend. Oh, and happy international women’s day to all my women and people who identify as a woman❤️
